The second quarter of 2024 saw notable trends in the performance of the top 5 social networking applications in Kenya. Data from Sensor Tower reveals significant insights into the weekly downloads, revenue, and active user metrics for WhatsApp Messenger, Telegram Messenger, Facebook, Messenger, and Google Meet.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a steady weekly revenue, peaking at $7 in multiple weeks throughout the quarter. Weekly downloads showed a significant initial spike to 732K in early April, followed by a decline, and then a gradual recovery reaching 121K by the end of June. Active users remained relatively stable, fluctuating around the 14.5M mark.

Telegram Messenger saw its highest weekly revenue in late April at approximately $1.5K. Downloads were highest at the beginning of the quarter with 259K, then decreased but picked up again towards the end of June, reaching around 72K. Active user numbers showed a positive trend, increasing from 2.2M to 2.5M over the quarter.

Facebook experienced consistent weekly revenue, with a peak of $1.3K in early May. Downloads were highest in early April at 578K, with a notable increase again in June, culminating at 143K. Active users showed a steady rise throughout the quarter, starting at 13.7M and reaching 14M by the end of June.

Messenger saw weekly downloads peak at approximately 42K by the end of June, starting from 127K in early April. Active users experienced a slight decline initially but recovered steadily from 3.9M to 4.1M by the end of the quarter.

Google Meet had a modest number of weekly downloads, peaking at 8.2K in early May. Active users saw fluctuations, starting at 730K in early April, dipping mid-quarter, and then rising to 807K by the end of June.
